On Monday the 27th of September 2021, our 1st year students accompanied by Miss Burke and Miss Greene set off on a fun-filled team bonding day at the fantastic outdoor activity centre Derg Isle.
Derg Isle is an activity centre based in Scariff Co. Clare which cater for all age groups and abilities.
Derg Isle offers both land and water-based activities which the students really enjoy!
In the morning, the students set off in their Kayaks and travelled along a series of winding channels which lead onto Lough Derg. Students were given the opportunity to explore and experience open water kayaking and cool off with a quick dip in the lake. Upon arriving back to the activity centre and after a quick recess the students were introduced to the climbing wall. Here the students were given a brief safety talk and the climbing commenced. All students got the opportunity to climb various rock walls whilst having the opportunity to control some of the ropes.
Archery was the next on the agenda which none of the students had experienced before. After a brief demonstration, the students were aiming for a bullseye and were quite successful.
After lunch, the students went on team building land activities. They had to use effective team work and communication skills to complete various task. The tasks included lava land, minefield, tug a war and finally to finish the day, a team race through the obstacle course.
Overall, the students had a very enjoyable day exploring new activities whilst building personal attributes and valuable connections within their year group.
