Soccer in KCC is here at last. The tremendous interest in soccer among the students was displayed through the great turn out last Tusday the 12th of October. It was the first soccer trial from what I can recall has been held in the school. And it is certainly looking positive.

My experiences and success

I started soccer from a young age playing with the nearest local club in Kilrush, Moneypoint AFC. At around 11 I started getting involved with the Clare team. My interest seemed to grow rapidly everytime I stepped on the pitch. I competed with Clare in the Kennedy cup at 12 and 13. At 14 I moved to my first league of Ireland club Limerick FC where I represented them at U15 and U17 level. Earlier this year, I moved to Treaty United. I am currently competing with the U17 and U19 teams.

The trials

A sign up sheet was advertised in the assembly hall regarding the soccer trials. In two days there was 27 signatures and with out a doubt all attended. The trial started with a quick talk, warm up and straight into matches. There were many players that presented excellent quality and determination that I never would have known about. Although space was limited with the number of people on the astroturf, there was glimpses of talent shown by a number of players. Substitutes were constantly being made to ensure all players were given an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

Goals for the team

  • To improve and develop each player’s playing ability and understanding of the game.
  • Display solid performances on the pitch.
  • Get more players involved with local teams.
  • Build a strong bond among the team.
